BIAZONS COMMEND UNARMED BALIKATAN US TROOPS IN NON-COMBAT AREA: Senator Rodolfo G Biazon, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security together with the Vice Chair of the House Committee on National Defense and Security Congressman Rozzano Rufino Biazon observed and appreciated the structured military exercises between the Philippine and US troops at Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija a few days ago where a Filipino officer is directing the control of the fire of the American artillery battery. The Biazons took cognizance that the US troops carried no weapons and only the Philippine troops were armed. Senator Biazon said what he witnessed was an affirmation of P. S. Resolution No. 1370 which he filed recommending that the Balikatan activities should be conducted in safe training areas and not in conflict prone areas such as in Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi to prevent the occurrence of American soldiers being killed in a combat area or a Filipino being killed by a US firearm.
