Philippines, ASEAN need to be with Myanmar on road to democracy: The Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator Loren Legarda, welcomed the ongoing reform and engagement process in Myanmar which she hoped would be sustained and broadened toward securing Myanmar’s democratic and progressive future. She said these encouraging developments inspire hope for a new future for Myanmar’s people. Legarda said that the Philippines, as a fellow-member in ASEAN, needs to contribute to this engagement process. Legarda was the first Philippine official who visited Aung San Suu Kyi following her release from house arrest in November last year.
