DECENT WORK FOR DOMESTIC WORKERS: Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada was the keynote speaker during the National Trade Union Conference on Decent Work for Domestic Workers. In his speech, Sen. Estrada updated the trade unionists and domestic workers on the status of the long overdue “Batas Kasambahay.” The bill, which provides 13th month pay and social security benefits among others and protects the labor rights of domestic workers, is currently pending before the bicameral conference committee. Sen. Estrada, labor committee chairman and author and sponsor of the measure, also solicited their support to ensure the passage of the bill, especially now that both chambers of Congress have already approved it after languishing in the legislative mill for the past 16 years.
