865 private schools temporarily closed: Sen. Nancy Binay was told during the hybrid hearing held by the Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, that a total of 865 private schools will not be operating this school year. Of the total figure, 35 schools cited financial status as reason for their temporary closure while 374 schools claimed low enrolment while the remaining 333 schools said the Covid-19 pandemic prompted them to decide not to operate this year. Binay likewise learned that there is low confidence on online learning among parents and the general sentiment is due to the quality of remote delivery of education. (Screen grab/ Senate PRIB)
