Drilon urges demand-driven education: Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon, during Monday’s virtual hearing of the Committee on Finance on the proposed 2021 budget of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and state universities and colleges (SUCs), September 21, 2020, notes the mismatch between the needs of the labor industry and the products of the education system. “Is there an effort to address the mismatch between the graduates and the needs of the industry by coming out with a research program on what is needed, say in the next five years, and which courses should be geared towards that?" Drilon asked. CHED chairperson Prospero de Vera told the committee they have already formalized a system for the Labor Department, the CHED, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Science and Technology to gather and use all the information to address the mismatch.
