Recto expresses concern on Chinese equipment: Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto expresses his concern over the use of Chinese telecommunications equipment in Globe Telecommunications Inc. cell sites. “What percentage of your equipment would be Chinese equipment? China purchases all its electronic chips from the US and by October, US companies will stop selling these chips to China. Their advantage will be diminished,” Recto said during a public hearing on several proposals to grant franchises to electronic and telecommunications companies Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Globe General Counsel and Senior Vice President Froilan Castelo told Recto that 80 percent of their equipment are from Huawei while 20 percent are from Ericsson and Nokia. He said Huawei is the most advanced as compared to its counterparts which is one to one-and-half years away in technology. He said Huawei assured Globe that it has its own local chips in case US companies would stop supplying them with their chips. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
