Hearing on Red-Tagging of Celebrities and Organizations: Sen. Panfilo Lacson, chair of the Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation, presides over the hybrid hearing on proposed Senate Resolution No. 559, which directs the Senate Committee to exercise its oversight authority over the defense sector on the issue of red-tagging/ red-baiting of certain celebrities, personalities, institutions, and organizations. During the hearing, Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Lacson underscored that as one of the authors and the principal sponsor of Republic Act No. 11479, or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, he will make sure that the same is applied correctly with utmost respect for the rule of law, and that the Bill of Rights under the 1987 Constitution will always be the backbone of this legislation. “This is the reason why we gather here this morning with the end in view of crafting proper guidelines in order to prevent any misunderstanding between the public and our law enforcers and ultimately, to ensure the protection of the constitutional rights of the people in general,” Lacson said.
