Continue discussion on OFW department creation: Sen. Bong Go stresses the need for a more responsive mechanism to address the plight of overseas Filipino workers during the hybrid hearing of the Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development, Monday, December 7, 2020, on various bills proposing the creation of a dedicated department for overseas Filipino workers. “We have a lot of concerns that we need to address now. This should not take a back seat. While we are financially constrained, this should not stop us from doing our job and looking for better ways to improve our government. Let us continue the discussion and let us see how we can improve further this proposed measure,” Go said. Cabinet Secretary Carlo Nograles, who also attended the hearing via video conference, said the creation of the Department of Overseas Filipino Workers will contribute to right-sizing because this will not create a totally new office but will be an “amalgamation of all key offices dealing with migrant workers' protection into a single entity that is focused in its mandate and avoids overlapping of functions.” (Screen grab/ Senate PRIB)
