60-Day price ceiling on pork and chicken update: Sen. Risa Hontiveros asks the Department of Agriculture (DA) updates on the implementation of Executive Order (EO) 124, imposing price ceiling on selected pork and chicken products in Metro Manila. Hontiveros also inquired if the DA is planning to come up with a recommendation to shorten or totally remove the price ceilings being imposed on said goods. “After almost three weeks of implementing the EO on price ceilings do we have an initial assessment on efforts to control prices and ensure enough supply of pork in Metro Manila?” Hontiveros asked during the virtual public hearing of the Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform, Monday, February 22, 2021. Agriculture Sec. William Dar told the committee that Metro Manila has enough supply of pork coming from various regions in the country, and that prices have started to go down. He also assured the senators that the DA would come up with a recommendation either to shorten or discontinue the imposition of the price ceiling. Pursuant to EO 124, the price ceiling will take effect for 60 days, unless extended by President Rodrigo Duterte upon the recommendation of the DA. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
