Protecting delivery riders: Sen. Lito Lapid empathizes with food delivery drivers who fell prey to unconscionable customers who cancelled confirmed orders or even failed to show up at the delivery address, despite the fact that the rider had already paid the ordered items. Lapid's Senate Bill No.1677, or the Food and Grocery Delivery Services Protection Act, described the delivery riders of food and grocery delivery service applications as “frontliners who took the risk and continued working and providing for our needs during the time of community quarantine and lockdown.” The bill aims to require service providers “to establish a mandatory reimbursement scheme for cancellation of orders and the customers to submit proof of identity and residential address,” Lapid said during the virtual hearing of the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Entrepreneurship Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
