Banning firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices: Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, chairman of the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, leads a hybrid hearing on several proposed measures seeking to ban the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in the country. The committee discussed Senate Bill No. (SBN) 493 (The Firecracker Ban Act) of Senate President Vicente Sotto III, SBN 517 (Nationwide Firecracker Regulation) of Dela Rosa, SBN 724 (Firecrackers Prohibition Act of 2019) of Sen. Win Gatchalian, and SBN 906 (Penalizing Individuals Who Share in Any Way Any Type of Firecrackers to Minor Children) of Sen. Nancy Binay. “Our government allows and respects customs and traditions as long as they are within the bounds of safety and are not contrary to public policy. However, if there comes a time that some aspects of these traditions and customs become harmful, it would be fitting for our government to step in,” Dela Rosa said Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
