On counterfeit woven fabrics: Sen. Nancy Binay, author of Senate Resolution No. 645 or the Counterfeit Garments, asks officials from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) if they have the capability to detect counterfeit woven fabrics during the virtual hearing on several measures on the protection and rights of indigenous peoples Tuesday, February 23, 2021. In her resolution, Binay noted that counterfeits were sold cheaply and had deceived many customers. She said small business owners selling locally woven fabrics were adversely affected by the illegal trade. A ranking Customs official admitted to Binay that the agency does not have a list of local woven fabrics as a basis for seizures. Of the P10.5 billion different commodities seized in 2020, he said none were woven fabrics. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
