Senate oks bill declaring Davao City as Chocolate Capital, Davao Region as Cacao Capital: The Senate in its hybrid plenary session, Monday, March 8, 2021, approved on third and final reading Senate Bill No. 1741, declaring Davao City as the Chocolate Capital and the entire Davao Region as the Cacao Capital of the Philippines. Sen. Cynthia Villar, chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform, and sponsor of the measure, thanked her colleagues and the Department of Agriculture for their help in passing the measure. The bill gives recognition to the contribution of cacao farmers who are mostly small holder farmers supplying dry cacao beans to mostly small to medium-scale enterprises processors and manufacturers locally and abroad.
