Poe leads hearing on just, humane PUV modernization program: Sen. Grace Poe, chairperson of the Committee on Public Services, presides over the virtual public hearing on Senate Bill No. 867 which seeks to provide a just and humane Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program, with transitory assistance and services rendered to PUV drivers, operators and stakeholders. According to Poe, the committee intends to get to the bottom of various issues hounding the PUV modernization program, including the plans and programs of the government to more than 100,000 PUV drivers and operators who would be displaced as a result of the program. “While we push for safer roads, we should also put ourselves in the shoes of those who are asked to comply with the regulations we are implementing. Surely, there must be a way to modernize our PUVs without throwing our drivers under the proverbial bus. It is under these circumstances that this hearing is called for. We want to hear all sides so we can finally put to rest these issues and give some peace of mind to the PUV sector,” Poe said Tuesday, March 16, 2021. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
