A turning point bill for the military: Sen. Richard Gordon expresses optimism that the passage of Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2376, An Act Strengthening Professionalism and Continuity of the Policies and Modernization Initiatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), will be a turning point for the military to make sure that its leadership is given enough time to introduce reforms. Gordon, in his co-sponsorship speech on SBN 2376, said it is time to give the military the tools and the system that would help them succeed in their task. “It’s my hope and prayer that when we do this, we can also support the military with all the necessary funding. It will take a while because of what is happening in our country right now. But I don’t think we can play Russian roulette with our soldiers, with our national interest, with the protection of our people. After all, the Constitution clearly stated that the military is the defender and protector of the people of this country,” Gordon said Monday, September 6, 2021. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
