A timely inquiry: Sen. Francis “Tol” Tolentino, during the hybrid inquiry of the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on the alleged sale of AK-47 rifles to the members of the New People’s Army with the aid of some Philippine National Police officials, says the committee inquiry is very timely, especially with recent development in Afghanistan. Tolentino said he saw the relevance of the hearing with the fall of the Afghanistan government wherein loose firearms could be coursed through the black market. “I think this is a very timely inquiry. We just had a foreign affairs committee hearing last week, which has something to do with the arms trade treaty. So it is not just the past incident but the prevention of proliferation of firearms in the black market,” Tolentino said Tuesday, September 7, 2021. (Voltaire F. Domingo/Senate PRIB) |
