Serious affront against the welfare of the Filipino people: Sen. Richard Gordon, chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee, presides over the continuation of the virtual inquiry on the 2020 Commission on Audit (COA) report on the utilization of the Department of Health (DOH) budget, particularly on its expenditures for the Covid-19 program Friday, September 10, 2021. According to Gordon, it appears that those in charge of the country’s Covid-19 response have chosen to use the funds to procure overpriced masks and personal protective equipment instead of using the excess money for subsidies, medicines, and other crucial goods for the Filipino people. “So far, what we discovered is a very serious affront against the welfare of the Filipino people. We all have a sworn duty to protect the people. But why did we entrust our pandemic response to a few people who we barely knew? We need to uncover the truth further to be able to correct the wrong in our nation,” Gordon said. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
