Continuing professional development: Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. presides over Tuesday’s virtual hearing of the Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation, September 14, 2021, on several measures calling for a review of Republic Act (RA) 10912 otherwise known as the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Act of 2016. RA 10912 is an act requiring CPD as the mandatory requirement for the renewal of professional identification card (PIC). Revilla stressed that the CPD should not just be a requirement for the renewal of PIC but an instrument to update and upgrade the competencies of the professionals. “We have to revisit the CPD law to see its necessity, effectiveness and responsiveness to our current needs,” Revilla said, noting that three bills call for its amendment and another three are calling for the repeal of the law. The committee also discussed measures on conducting board examinations under the pandemic, augmenting the employee benefits for the solicitors of the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) --the retirement, death and survivorship benefits of the solicitor general, assistant solicitors general, senior state solicitors, and state solicitors of the OSG.
