Preparing for 2022 elections: Sen. Imee Marcos leads the Senate panel in a virtual hearing of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on the Automated Election System, Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Marcos said as much as the committee wants to focus on evaluating the conduct of the 2019 elections, “the preparations for 2022, both the national and local elections, should be the highlight of our public hearing and meeting as we charter largely unknown territory conducting an election safely during a pandemic.” As a senatorial candidate in 2019, Marcos said she was also mystified by the 7-hour outage or glitch that occurred. “We hope that for 2022, the enhancements will prohibit such untoward occurrences and the continuing process of improving our automated election system will be undertaken,” Marcos said. The House of Representatives panel was headed by Cong. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. The hearing was also attended by Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Marlon Casquejo; Comelec Exec. Dir. Bartolome Sinocruz, National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections Secretary General Eric Alvia, and representatives from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting.
