On airport and coastline security: Sen. Imee Marcos, in a hybrid hearing of the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs Tuesday, September 21, 2021, expresses concerns over the country’s airports and coastline security. Marcos noted that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) had flagged the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and other airports in the country for its failure to maintain and carry out effective security consistent with the ICAO standard. The senator seeks clarification on who’s really in charge over airport security, noting that the Department of Interior and Local Government has the Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agency (SOSIA) while the Department of Transportation has the Office of Transport Security (OTS). As to coastline security, Marcos said it is necessary to clarify which agency is in charge to undertake training and supervision, whether it is the Philippine National Police Maritime Group or the Philippine Coast Group.
