TESDA's TVET: Flexible and permeable: Sen. Joel Villanueva, during Monday’s hybrid hearing of Finance Subcommittee J, October 18, 2021, on the proposed 2022 budget of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Philippine International Trading Corporation (PITC), says TESDA, among educational agencies, is the most responsive to change because “technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is not only flexible but also permeable.” Villanueva cited the potential of the agency to help the people back on their feet during this pandemic, despite the criticisms against TESDA, especially when it comes to low utilization of scholarship funds. “Amid the continuing restrictions on face-to-face training and assessment, we are one step ahead of the others because of the TESDA Online Program or TOP which has been in existence long before the pandemic,” Villanueva said. TESDA’s proposed 2022 budget, as approved by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) amounts to P14.5 billion. (Henzberg Austria/Senate PRIB)
