Senate opens plenary debates on proposed 2022 budget: Finance Committee chair Sen. Sonny Angara opens plenary debates on the proposed 2022 national budget amounting to P5.024 trillion during Tuesday’s hybrid plenary session, November 9, 2021. Angara endorsed for plenary approval House Bill No. 10153 under Committee Report No. 332 which contains the 2022 General Appropriations Bill. Angara said the Senate version of the bill introduced amendments to the version transmitted by the House of Representatives to boost the government’s response to COVID-19 pandemic. “Hopefully the proposed budget that we will be presenting today, which is also the last that the 18th Congress will approve, will help make sure that the return to normalcy becomes a reality... this is what the 2022 national budget funds: on the optimism that the virus is defeated, the pandemic conquered, and so reconstruction must begin. But if the virus mutates, again, in its lethal form, this budget must also be ready for that contingency. In short, this is a budget that funds COVID resistance and COVID recovery,” Angara said.
