Tolentino sponsors eight local holiday bills: Senate Committee on Local Government chairperson Francis “Tol” Tolentino on Monday, December 6, 2021, sponsors eight local holiday bills which were earlier approved by the committee without amendments. According to Tolentino, of the eight bills, two seek to honor the contributions of two Filipinos to the country’s history and economic progress while six seek to celebrate the foundation day of local government units. The two bills are House Bill No. (HBN) 7650, which seeks to declare September 20 of every year a special non-working holiday in the province of Ilocos Norte to be known as Josefa Llanes-Escoda day and HBN 7651, which seeks to declare June 10 of every year a special non-working holiday in the province of Tarlac to be known as Danding Cojuangco day. The six other bills are HBN 5692, Mt. Pinatubo Day (June 15); HBN 5682, Charter Day of Tagaytay City’ or ‘Araw ng Lungsod ng Tagaytay’ (June 21); HBN 6363, “Anniversary Day of Pasig City” (July 2); HBN 8839, Cordillera Day (June 15); HBN 8840, Navotas Day (January 16); and HBN 8380, which seeks to expand the coverage of foundation days and feast days in Davao Oriental. “It is this humble representation’s wish that the eight bills be enacted into law and to give imprimatur likewise to the wishes of the people of Ilocos Norte, Tarlac, Tagaytay City, Pasig City, the Cordilleras, Pampanga, Davao Oriental and Navotas City,” Tolentino said during the hybrid plenary session.(Albert Calvelo/Senate PRIB)
