Eradicating phone-aided terrorism: Sen. Grace Poe, chairperson of the Committee on Public Services, introduces amendments to Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2395, or An Act to Eradicate Mobile Phone-Aided Terrorism and Criminal Activities. The measure mandates the registration of all SIM cards for cellular phones. Poe thanked Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon “for broadening the effectivity of this bill, to be able to cover the latest technology, the different ways by which we communicate and use technology.” Poe added: “As you know, the government's always playing catch up. But it's true that we don't just deal with cell phones here. A lot of communication is also done online.” Poe thanked Sen. Panfilo Lacson, the main author of the bill. She also thanked Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri, Senators Win Gatchalian, Cynthia Villar, Manny Pacquiao, Francis Pangilinan, and Senate President Vicente Sotto III. The bill passed on second reading Monday, December 13, 2021. (Voltaire F. Domingo/Senate PRIB)
