Protecting musicians, artists, et. al. vs copyright infringement: Sen Imee Marcos, during Wednesday’s hybrid plenary session January 26, 2022, suggests the involvement of Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) given the “sad reputation” of the Philippines in copyright infringement. Marcos, during the period of amendment on Senate Bill No. 2455 or An Act to Develop and Promote the Creative Industries of the Philippines, said this will help protect the country’s musicians, filmmakers and other artists in defending their original copyright. Marcos also said the recognition of creative industry “will give a very serious boost to a growth point” in the country’s economy, particularly following the damage to the industry brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
