Foot-dragging is costing lives: Sen. Richard Gordon laments the non-implementation of the Republic Act (RA) 11235, also known as the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act which, he said, would have prevented and protected the general public from riding-in-tandem crime. During the hybrid session, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, Gordon sponsored Committee Report No.435 on the alleged misfeasance, malfeasance, and nonfeasance in the implementation of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act. The failure of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to implement RA 11235 has caused more people to still get killed by criminals in riding-in-tandem incidents. “The delay in the issuance of the implementing rules and regulations (of RA 11235), greatly hampered the distribution of new, bigger, and color-coded motorcycle plates…It took them a year to sign and release the IRR (implementing rules and regulations). This is a direct violation of Section 17 of RA 11235… The foot-dragging is costing lives,” Gordon said. (Screen grab/Senate PRIB)
