Future of Philippine education: Sen. Pia Cayetano sponsors on Monday, May 23, 2022, the report of the Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation and Futures Thinking on its legislative inquiry on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to the Philippine education system and coming up with responsive ways of learning for future health emergencies. Cayetano said the comprehensive committee report gathered recommendations from local and foreign experts and stakeholders in the education sector. The Senate panel, among others, called for a more responsive educational system that supports sustainable development and life-long learning. It also recommended the shift of mindset towards a more international and future-oriented thinking. Citing projections from the World Economic Forum, Cayetano stressed that in 10 years, automation, technologies and artificial intelligence would change 50 percent of jobs, with most of them requiring digital skills. "With the world changing and advancing so rapidly, we are faced with the choice of adapting or being left behind...We must devote more time and resources into research, planning and investments to take us steps closer into our preferred future of education," she said.
