One for the history books: Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri sponsors the report of the joint committee and its accompanying joint resolution proclaiming the victory of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. and Sara Z. Duterte in the May 9, 2022 national elections. The official canvass of votes of the joint congressional canvassing committee, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, showed Marcos garnering a final count of 31,629,783 votes while Duterte received 32,208,417 million votes. In his speech, Zubiri touted the 2022 national elections to be one for the history books. He pointed out that the 2022 national election was historic because of the following reasons: Having the highest number of votes cast with 82 percent voter turnout or 55,197,306 votes; having elected the first majority president and vice president since the 1987 Constitution, with the duly-elected president garnering 58.77 percent votes cast during the elections while the duly-elected vice president garnering 61.53 percent of the total votes; and lastly, the 2022 national elections canvassing was the fastest that the public had seen. “The greater task of the victors today is to unite our countrymen for nation-building. That begins today. This weighs heavy on their shoulders,” Zubiri stressed. (Bibo Nueva España / Senate PRIB)
