Zubiri backs physical presence of Senators in sessions, hearings: Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel "Migz" F. Zubiri supports the return of in-person plenary sessions and committee hearings in the upper chamber. During the hybrid session Thursday, May 26, 2022, Zubiri opined that senators should physically be present in Senate proceedings, noting that his children would be attending face-to-face classes starting June. "Maybe it's time that we also do face-to-face [sessions]," the Senate leader said in Filipino. Zubiri noted that the chamber is not precluded to reinstall the rule allowing the conduct of sessions and committee hearings via teleconference if necessary. Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, hearing no objection from their colleagues, ruled to suspend the said rule. To recall, the Senate, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, adopted in May 2020, Resolution No. 43 which amended the Rules of the Senate and allow the conduct of hybrid plenary sessions and committee hearings.
