Increasing social pension: Sen. Joel Villanueva thanks his colleagues, especially Senate President Vicente Sotto III, for supporting the passage of Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2506 seeking to increase the social pension of indigent senior citizens, and SBN 1834 or the Philippine Digital Workforce Competitiveness Act Monday, May 30, 2022. Villanueva, sponsor of both bills, said the increase in social pension from P500 to P1,000 is the least that could be done for indigent senior citizens who face unemployment and lack of funds in their old age. Meanwhile, Villanueva said the approval of SBN 1834 would prepare the Filipino youth for jobs and skills for the future. “The challenge for us is to enhance the digital skills of our people thru formal education and training and life-long learning opportunities. This bill introduces a legal framework in terms of providing the necessary digital infrastructures and upskilling the Filipino workforce on digital technology and innovations. Life is digital. We have to catch up and jump on board because the movement to digital life is fast and real,” Villanueva said. (Voltaire F. Domingo/Senate PRIB)
