Marcos leads hearing on general assessment of the 2022 polls: Sen. Imee Marcos, chairperson of the Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation, presides over Tuesday, May 31, 2022, a committee hearing on the general assessment of the 2022 national and local elections. Marcos asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) officials what they plan to do with the vote counting machines (VCMs) and whether partial or complete replacement of the machines is in order. “I am wondering if you have already computed forward exactly what we should do with the VCMs. We've gone through the repairs and so on. Perhaps partial or complete replacement of these VCMs is in order?” Marcos asked. Comelec chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan said the poll body would recommend the leasing of new VCMs to replace the 13-year-old machines for the 2025 local and national elections.
