Our teachers deserve better: Sen. Win Gatchalian presents the findings on the inquiry, in aid of legislation, on the implementation of Republic Act No. 4670 or the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers during the plenary session, Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Gatchalian, chairman of the Committee on Basic Education, Art, and Culture, expressed his disappointment that three pivotal benefits and privileges granted to public school teachers under the Magna Carta remain mere illusory promises up to now, almost six decades after the law was passed. These benefits and privileges were medical/health benefits; promotion of retiring teacher and their rightful retirement benefits; and the annual submission of necessary budget estimates to Congress. “I wish to emphatically state for the record that I stand as one with our public school teachers, who have long clamored for the realization of their rights under the Magna Carta… It is time for the government to make good on the promises it made to teachers almost six decades ago, yet failed to keep. Our teachers deserve better from us,” Gatchalian said. (Bibo Nueva España / Senate PRIB)
