Income reclassification of LGUs: Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito sponsors Senate Bill No. 2165 otherwise known as an act institutionalizing the automatic income classification of provinces, cities and municipalities Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Ejercito, chairperson of the Committee on Local Government, said the proposed measure aims to institutionalize the automatic classification of the local government units (LGUs), and seeks to grant authority to the secretary of finance to regularly reclassify the LGUs every three years and review or revise the income ranges provided in the substitute bill. Under the measure, Ejercito explained, provinces, cities and municipalities shall be classified to six income classes that will truly reflect their financial capability and position. He said the current classification for the LGUs are based on an outdated revenue figures. “There is an outstanding 141 requests from various LGUs submitted to the Department of Finance (DOF) asking the secretary for income reclassification. DOF also informed the committee of an LGU that wanted to self-classify through a local ordinance,” Ejercito said. (Bibo Nueva Espana/Senate PRIB)
