Pedestrians’ safety: Sen. Pia S. Cayetano urges the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs to consider also the safety of pedestrians, aside from the cyclists. During Tuesday’s public hearing September 5, 2023, Cayetano said protecting pedestrians is also an issue of public order and safety. “I’d like this hearing, your honor, to also cover non-cyclists because there are many people not riding two wheels or four wheels who are in dire need of safety when they are on the roads -- the pedestrians,” Cayetano stressed. The senator filed Resolution No. 763 urging the committee to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, on the viral road rage incident. “The issue also highlights the safety of cyclists on the road, and the issue of road sharing, a concept that remains ignored by and alien to many Filipino motorists, which means that one must share in the responsibility of ensuring everyone's safety, as everyone has an equal right to access public roads,” Cayetano stated in her resolution.
