United Arab Emirates: time for the Philippines to seriously consider nuclear energy: Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, together with Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel Jr., Senators Win Gatchalian, Pia Cayetano, Alan Peter Cayetano, Representative Mark Cojuangco, as well as Special Envoy to the UAE, Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, receives a visiting Delegation from the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) headed by its Managing Director and CEO, Mohamed Al Hammadi, at the Senate President’s Conference Room on 13 August 2024. The latter was accompanied by the UAE Ambassador, H.E. Mohamed Obaid Alqattam Alzaabi. Both sides discussed the beneficial uses of nuclear energy and its possible inclusion in the Philippine energy mix to help promote the country’s economic development. ENEC expressed its readiness to help the Philippines develop a roadmap for its nuclear energy program to ensure its success. The Senate President along with his colleagues expressed their willingness to consider nuclear energy to provide the Philippines a stable supply of electricity. The Senate President, as well as the other Senators, assured the Delegation that they will maintain an open mind towards nuclear energy and ask the UAE to share its best practices once the country is ready to shift towards this energy source in the future.
