Decline in TESDA enrollment rate: Sen. Win Gatchalian expresses alarm over the decline of enrollees of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) from 2019 to present. “We took notice that the enrolment rate of the TESDA has not gone back to pre-pandemic level. This is a policy question and I just want to pick the brain of the management as to what are the causes why we haven’t gone back to the pre-pandemic level despite the substantial increase in budget,” Gatchalian said. “The other sectors like basic education and higher education, in fact, already surpassed the pre-pandemic level (enrolment rate), what is their analysis, what are the action plans that the management intends to take in order to bring back the enrolment level to pre-pandemic level,” he added. Gatchalian, during budget hearing, September 18, 2024, of the Finance Subcommittee J on the proposed P18.7-billiion budget of TESDA for 2025, noted a 34 percent decrease of the TESDA enrolment rate from 2019 to 2023.
