Hearing to bring justice, healing: Sen. Risa Hontiveros welcomes the Blue Ribbon subcommittee investigation on the Philippine War on Illegal Drugs Monday, October 28, 2024. Hontiveros, whose office investigated the alleged murder of Kian de Los Santos during former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s war on drugs, said the hearing may begin to bring about justice and healing for Kian’s family and other victims. Hontiveros also questioned the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) incentive system which she said granted rewards to policemen who killed alleged drug addicts. “To all those who say that the War on Drugs is a punishment for those who lose their way, my message to you is this: there is no honor in punishment like “tokhang.” It should not be an honor to be called "The Punisher," when thousands of innocent people, including babies, have died in your name.
