Stricter implementation of safety rules in seaports, bus terminals: Sen. Raffy Tulfo, during a public hearing conducted by the Committee on Public Services Thursday, November 7, 2024, urges stricter implementation of safety rules and regulations in public seaports and bus terminals across the country. Tulfo said he noticed many areas that need to be improved in both seaports and bus terminals during his surprise inspections at Binangonan Port and bus terminals in the cities of Pasay, Parañaque and Cubao. “There's the lack of insurance for boats that swell and life jackets that don't fit. Violations of the buses in the terminals that I went to were also rampant. Almost all the fire extinguishers on the buses are either expired or defective! There are buses with flat tires, no CCTV cameras, no preventive maintenance book. The toilets in all the bus stations I've been to are also not passable. When the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted random drug testing on some bus drivers, unfortunately for the public, one of the bus drivers tested positive for illegal drugs,” Tulfo disclosed. The senator emphasized the need for ports and bus terminals management to ensure that the services delivered to the public are convenient, safe, and efficient.
