Cayetano defends proposed 2025 education budget: Sen. Pia Cayetano sponsors the proposed 2025 budgets of the Department of Education-Office of the Secretary with an appropriation of P749 billion, and its attached agencies with the following appropriations: National Academy of Sports, P375 million; National Book Development Board, P265 million; National Council for Children’s Television, P124 million; National Museum of the Philippines, P1.43 billion; Philippine High School for Arts, P150 million; and Early Childhood Care and Development Council, P395 million. “In the past years, during the budget season, we have always tried to be sustainable, but also resilient to future challenges, all the while considering intergenerational fairness. This is the idea that the needs of the present generation should be met without compromising the needs of future generations. I extend our gratitude to our chairperson of the Committee on Finance, Sen. (Grace) Poe for granting some of the committee’s proposals, some of which include additional funding for the department’s eight-week Literacy and Numeracy Program, additional funding to our support teachers and learners who are granted textbooks and other instructional materials and as part of our goal of improving learning outcome and access for education. Electrification of our schools are also made a priority by allocating more funding. There is also more funding for feeding programs,” Cayetano said Thursday, November 7, 2024.
