The naughty one: Sen. Grace Poe, daughter of the late Fernando Poe Jr. (FJP) describes former President Joseph Estrada as the “naughty one” while her father is called the “perfect gentleman.” Poe, during her co-sponsorship speech Tuesday, February 4, 2025, said her father and the former president became best friends during their years in showbiz. “In fact, it was FPJ who gave the former president his screen name ‘Erap’ as a play on the word ‘pare’ or buddy... FPJ was usually the perfect gentleman while former president Erap was the ‘naughty one’ (in several movies they were together),” the senator said. She said excellence runs in the blood of Estrada, recognized as Outstanding Mayor and Foremost Nationalist by the Inter-Provincial Information Service in 1971 and hailed as the Most Outstanding Metro Manila Mayor by the Philippines Princetone Poll in 1972. Estrada was also cited as one of the “Three Outstanding Senators of the Year” by the Philippine Free Press in 1989. It was Estrada who also opened the door of public service to FPJ and the lady senator, she said. “Despite his being away from the limelight and simply enjoying his family time, the impact and enduring legacy of former president Erap through his strong pro-poor advocacy under the principle of ‘the greater good for the greatest number,’ will always remain a relevant era in Philippine politics,” Poe stressed.
