SP Chiz submits proposed impeachment calendar, establishes support group: Senate President Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero, in a press briefing Thursday, February 27, 2025, submits to colleagues the proposed calendar of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. In his proposal, the articles of impeachment will be presented in the plenary when session resumes on June 2, after which the Senate will convene as an impeachment court. Incumbent senator-judges of the 19th Congress will also take their oaths. After the State of the Nation Address on July 28, newly-elected senators of the 20th Congress will take their oaths before sitting as judges in the impeachment court. The actual trial will start on July 30. “The Senate hopes to adhere to the foregoing schedule and, considering that both the prosecution and defense will have ample time to prepare for the proceedings, will not tolerate any dilatory motion or pleading,” the Senate leader said. Escudero also signed Special Order No. 2025-015 (OSP) Series of 2025 for the establishment of an administrative support group that will assist in the trial.
