VILLAR ON REVILLA'S RIFT WITH CONGRESSMEN

Senator Manny Villar, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance and Public Order and Illegal Drugs came to the defense of his colleague Senator Bong Revilla who irked some congressmen whose respective bills were not prioritized by Revilla's Senate Committee on Public Works.

According to Villar, "As a former Speaker, I understand that as representatives of their districts, they have certain bills that are important to their constituents. So they have a right to feel bad."

"But I'm also aware that with the huge number of bills turned over to us at the Senate, it is just impossible to pass them all. We already need to prioritize urgent bills," adds Villar.

Villar also cited that many legislators file so-called unfunded laws.

"Many are guilty of passing unfunded laws. Of course when we file bills, we should also identify the source of funding. Otherwise, the laws can't be implemented and will be all for naught," further cites Villar.

"Thus, it is only humanely possible for Sen. Revilla and his committee members to prioritize all those hundreds of bills, there may also be not enough funds to implement them anyway. As a firs-term Senator, I would say Bong did a commendable job," says Villar.
