ON BUNYES TIRADE AGAINST THE SENATE

Firstly it must be stressed that it was Malacañang and not the Senate that was found by the SC to have gravely abused its powers in violation of the constitution. Hence, the attempts by the Presidents men at painting the Senate as the bad guy are pure and simple squid tactics. It is an attempt at muddling the issue and twisting the truth. The use of executive privilege will not stop us from requiring them to appear and citing them in contempt if they refuse to do so. There can be no blanket claim of executive privilege. Malacañang like all other government offices must account for their acts and the refusal to be held accountable for their actions under the guise of invoking executive privilege is a violation of the constitution and should never be tolerated. Malacañang must acknowledge that there are constitutional limits to what it can do and the sooner this happens, the sooner we will see a better-governed nation.
