PIMENTEL SAYS LUZS RESIGNATION AS NAMFREL
SECRETARY GENERAL A GOOD MOVE

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Nene Q. Pimentel, Jr. (PDP-Laban) today said he welcomes the resignation of Guillermo Luz as secretary general of the National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) even as he suggested that businessman Jose Concepcion, Jr., Namfrel chairman, should follow suit.

Good move on the part of the man. There is such a thing as being burnt out in the task that one is doing no matter how good his intentions are, Pimentel said.

Luz tendered his resignation as early as Jan. 17 this year but Concepcion accepted it only last month.

With this move, perhaps, Jose Concepcion will follow suit. I know how difficult it is to let go of ones baby. But Namfrel has outgrown JoeCons fatherhood. I am sure that there are other good people in Namfrel who can take over, he said.

The senator said a takeover by a new leadership in the Namfrel will be an auspicious move as it seeks accreditation as citizens arm of the Commission on Elections for the 2007 polls.

Pimentel also inquired about the move to deport Luz for engaging in political activities despite his being a Canadian citizen. It was Pimentel who questioned Luzs role as Namfrel secretary general on the ground of his foreign citizenship.

In the meantime, the people are entitled to know what has happened to the move to deport Luz for getting involved in the electoral activities of the nation even as he is an alien.
