NOMINATION OF SENATOR MANUEL VILLAR

This morning, as we open the third regular session of the 13th Congress, we also open another chapter in this august Chamber's history

On this occasion, I am proud and honored to nominate Senator Manuel Villar as President of the Senate

Senator Villar is widely known for his competence, efficiency, diligence, and strong determination to succeed With perseverance and hard work as his guiding principles in life, he carved an enviable niche in the business sector He earned the title "Dean of Philippine Housing Industry", for initiating mass housing projects that resulted in the construction of more than 100,000 houses for poor and middle class Filipino families

Since he entered politics in 1992 , he has consistently shown the marks of a good leader He was Speaker of the House of Representatives during the 11th Congress, and shepherded into law various economic reform measures

As a freshman Senator in 2001, he held the position of Senate President Pro Tempore In the 13th Congress, he chaired the Committee on Finance and the Committee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs

With his indomitable and audacious spirit , he successfully conquered the world of business and politics Not resting on his laurels, he seeks to inspire more Filipinos to succeed in business through his Sipag at Tiyaga Caravan Kaalaman, which conducts livelihood training seminars all over the country

In recognition of his sterling achievements, he was named Most Distinguished UP Alumnus, the highest recognition given by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association Various universities and colleges in the country have also bestowed on him honorary degrees in various fields

Entrepreneur, housing innovator, lawmaker, friend, husband and father --- whatever role he plays in his life, Senator Manuel Villar consistently strives for excellence
