I Salute The Supreme Court!

Senator Rodolfo G. Biazon today said the Supreme Court ruling junking the petition of the Sigaw ng Bayan and other proponents of a Constitutional revision through a peoples initiative although only through a slim margin, gives hope that the Constitutional and institutional processes through the courts can still be relied upon to resolve serious political controversies.

This ruling would dampen any attempt to provide a resolution of political controversies through unconstitutional and adventurist means, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security added.

As a former soldier who was mandated by his oath of office and his duty to people and country to uphold and defend the Constitution with his life, I salute the Supreme Court!

Biazon asserted, I am sure that the soldiers of today share this sentiment.

The elements both in and out of government who intend to continue to pursue this Constitutional revision in their desire to concentrate the powers of government in the hands of one man will continue to pursue the same through the mechanism of a Constituent Assembly of Congress.

Again, the Supreme Court, as an institution will be the last resort to resolve the issue of the Constituent Assembly as a mechanism for effecting change in the Constitution especially the question of whether the two Chambers will act as a bicameral body by voting separately or will act as a unicameral body by voting jointly.

Biazon concluded, Our people will put their hopes and trust again in the Supreme Court to resolve this issue with institutional credibility.
