VILLAR LAUDS SUPREME COURT
DECISION ON PEOPLES INITIATIVE

Senate President Manny Villar, President of Nacionalista Party, once again congratulates the Supreme Court (SC) for coming out with its mandate regarding an issue of national interestthe peoples initiative.

As in previous issues, the Supreme Court acted independently and upheld the rule of law. While the decision to trash the peoples initiative was based on really close votes, it is still decisive and reflective of the justices stand on the issue, cites Villar.

The Supreme Court voted 8-7 on Wednesday (October 25) against a petition to change the Constitution through a peoples initiative.

Now that the Supreme Court has spoken with finality on the peoples initiative, its time to move on and leave the issue behind. There is a need for everyone to refocus our energies and resources in addressing the real needs of the people., adds Villar.
