PUNO DESCRIBED AS A LEGAL JURIST WHO WILL
DECIDE ISSUES ACCORDING TO LAW

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr. (PDP-Laban) today said he finds no reason to doubt that the Supreme Court under newly-appointed Chief Justice Reynato Puno, will maintain its independence and integrity and resolve judicial cases in conformity with the Constitution and the law.

Pimentel said the Arroyo administration and its minions who are pushing for Charter Change are harboring false hopes if they think they can make the Puno-led Supreme Court bend to their whims at the expense of the rule of law and peoples welfare.

I have more faith in the integrity of Chief Justice Puno than the administration congressmen and women led by Speaker Jose de Venecia repose in him, he said.

He said the new Chief Justice is a legal jurist, not a political purist, and as such, he will decide issues reaching the highest tribunal on the basis of what the Constitution and the law provide.

If he were a political purist of the mold of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Jose de Venecia, he would toe the political cabal advanced by the deadly duo even at the expense of the national interest, the minority leader said.

But Chief Justice Puno has more sense than what the modern-day cabalists led by GMA and JDV would want him to do. The cabalists of old interpreted scripture according to mystical ratiocination that defied common understanding. As heirs of the ancient cabalists, GMA/JDV would now interpret the Constitution according to mythical reasoning that only they could understand. They could not care less whether or not the people can follow the flawed logic of their moves.
