LACSON: GLORIAS CLEAN-POLL SUMMIT CALL LIKE
DRACULAS PROMISE TO STOP BLOOD-SUCKING

With her call for a summit and her promise to prevent cheating in the May 14 elections, President Arroyo is starting to sound like Count Dracula promising to stop sucking blood from his victims.

On this note, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said it will be hard to believe Mrs. Arroyos commitment to clean elections, when up to now she refuses to admit cheating in the 2004 presidential elections.

Hearing her call for a summit on clean elections is just like hearing Count Dracula promising to mend his blood-sucking ways. Mrs. Arroyo should show her sincerity and she take the first step by admitting there was massive cheating in the presidential polls in 2004, Lacson said.

Lacson noted that Mrs. Arroyo had protected her lying, cheating and stealing for the past three years by suppressing all possible forums to ferret the truth on cheating in the 2004 polls.

Twice, Mrs. Arroyos allies in the Lower House thwarted attempts to impeach her, while members of the executive department were prevented from testifying in Senate inquiries on alleged cheating by at least two questionable Malacañang directives.

He said that after admitting her sin, Mrs. Arroyo should then make amends by showing remorse for her cheating and asking the Filipino people for forgiveness before she even promises to keep this Mays election clean.

After that, he said she should remove from office all the officials she appointed as payback for helping secure her victory in 2004.

Just so she can be credible in her latest promise, she should match words with action. She can start by removing from office those whom she appointed as payback for helping her cheat. We know who they are. More importantly, she knows who they are, he said.

Otherwise, Lacson said no one will believe Mrs. Arroyos latest promise, which he said is the latest in a series of empty promises. He said she had already made so many promises only to fall short of matching them with action.

Such failure to match promises with actions has cost her her credibility, Lacson said.
