KIKO CITES GK AS A MODEL FOR SOCIALIZED HOUSING

Today's Gawad Kalinga Summit held at the Ateneo de Manila , brought together over 1,000 attendees from Couples for Christ and other cause-oriented organizations and supporters of Ramon Magsaysay awardee Gawad Kalinga.

Nauna diyan si Kiko Pangilinan," said Gawad Kalinga's Tony Meloto.

"I am humbled by Gawad Kalinga's recognition of my support for Gawad Kalinga. As former Chairman of the Committee on Housing and Urban Development, I recognized early on that there is no way that we can push for realistic change and concrete results without the private sector. Only through tripartite partnerships with government can we make change happen. Also creative ways of using the people's Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) was one reason why I thought it was important to us to tap into Gwad Kalinga to rebuild and reconstruct impoverished communities that once had no hope," expressed Sen. Kiko.

Kiko.

Kiko Pangilinan through its PDAF has appropriated more than 40 million pesos to build communities and reform lives nationwide, including new allocations in 2006, amounting to 2.5 million. He is the first public official to have appropriated the PDAF to Gawad Kalinga for housing.
